The Northwell Health Fellowship in Advanced Wound and Burn Care is a one-year, hands-on program accredited by the American Board of Wound Care Medicine and Surgery. Fellows train across three prestigious Northwell Health hospitals, gaining expertise in surgical wound care, burn management, and hyperbaric medicine. The program provides comprehensive training, including rotations in outpatient and inpatient settings, exposure to advanced wound care technologies, and participation in research studies. Fellows will work alongside renowned faculty and have the opportunity to present at national conferences and publish their research. The Wake Forest University School of Medicine is offering a one-year Fellowship in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine. While organized in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, this is truly a multidisciplinary educational program offering rotations in Infectious Disease, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Burn Care, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dermatology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Geriatrics, Pain Management, Rheumatology as well as inpatient and outpatient wound care at our four centers.
\nClinical and\/or laboratory research is expected during the year working with the faculty of the Wound Care Center and associated specialties.<\/p>\n

Competitive applicants must have an MD or DO degree and be board eligible or certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists.
\nTraining in either surgical or medical specialties is acceptable. Successful completion of the fellowship will prepare the trainee to be a wound care physician and potentially a medical
\ndirector. This is not an ACGME certified fellowship.
\nSalary and appropriate fringe benefits are provided.<\/p>\n

Usual start date July 1-st.
\nApplication are reviewed staring April - October. Interviews occur July - November.
\nOur goal is to have a decision by the end of November for the fellow staring following academic year in July 1-st to allow time for licensing and credentialing requirements. <\/p>\n

This program is based primarily at Mount Sinai West Hospital it Midtown Manhattan. The director of the program is the editor and chief of WOUNDS, board certified in general and vascular surgery, and certified by the American Board of Wound Medicine and surgery in advanced wound management.<\/p>\n

The training involves two days of busy wound practice per week, a fellows run half day clinic, a dedicated research day and a half day in the operating room, per week. The fellows routinely publish 6 articles in 1 year and present approximately 20 posters per year. Investigator initiated trials are supported <\/p>\n

The curriculum includes a comprehensive didactic core course which occurs 1 day a week, all wound types were seen (except Burn) including atypical wounds, pressure wounds, diabetic foot ulcers venous leg ulcers and arterial pathology postoperative dehiscence is also managed heavily by this practice. The director of the program is the system director for advanced wound care for the Mount Sinai healthcare Department of surgery. <\/p>\n

This very hands-on, personalized fellowship accepts only one fellow each year.<\/p>\n

Our full-time faculty members are board-certified in wound care, general surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedic Foot and Ankle surgery, Plastic surgery, Rheumatology, and Infectious Disease. Our campus provides the fellow with a diverse range of knowledge and experience to help develop their understanding in surgical wound care. Leading-edge wound care technology using immunofluorescence, infrared imaging, and multispectral analysis will be provided. advanced energy driven debridement techniques such as tangential hydro surgery and ultrasound debridement are employed. A full spectrum of cellular, acellular matrix like products as well as synthetic products are widely used. This program is based out of the Catholic Health Advanced Wound Healing Centers and the Mt. St. Mary's Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine. The trainee will spend time under the tutelage of the area's only full-time non-surgical wound care clinicians. Training is based on the ABWMS Core Curriculum with expectation of completion and passing of the ABWMS exam.<\/p>\n

The trainee will spend time on rotations with Catholic Health's Vascular Surgery, Podiatric Surgery and General Surgery departments as well as with our inpatient wound care team and home care based wound PTs to gain knowledge on all aspects of wound care.<\/p>\n

The trainee will spend clinical hours in each of the three wound care and hyperbaric facilities within the Catholic Health System<\/p>\n
